Two Unusual St. Louis Cardinals Logo Requests

Over the years, I received countless requests for St. Louis Cardinals logos and graphics—from vendors, partners, and fans of all kinds. Most were straightforward. A few, though, stood out for their originality.

Two in particular have stayed with me.

1. A Final Wish in Texas
One day, I got a call from a funeral director in Texas. He was making arrangements for a man who had left very specific instructions for his service. Among them was a request that a Cardinals logo be placed inside the lid of his casket—positioned so it would face him as he was laid to rest.

You could say his loyalty to the team was lifelong… and beyond.

2. A Logo with Staying Power
Another call came from a dental lab technician. He explained he had an unusual request: could I design a Cardinals logo small enough to be embedded in a denture?

I said yes—provided he could send along the necessary specifications. Then I asked the obvious question: who’s the client?

His answer: Marty Marion, a former St. Louis Cardinals baseball player.

That got my attention.

When it came time to discuss payment, I realized I didn’t exactly have a standard fee for something like this. After a moment, I made a suggestion: how about a signed baseball?

Deal.

And somewhere out there, I imagine that tiny logo is still holding its place—just as permanent as the legacy behind it.

Closing Thought

Working with a brand like the St. Louis Cardinals, you expect passion. What you don’t always expect is how deeply that passion runs—into personal rituals, lifelong identity, and even final wishes.

These moments were reminders that design isn’t just about logos or guidelines. It’s about connection. It’s about what people carry with them—sometimes quite literally—through every stage of life.

And occasionally, if you’re lucky, your work becomes part of a story that lasts far longer than you ever imagined.
