When Magnus Accounting Solutions contacted N-K, they were in the early stages of their start-up and needed a new logo identity. The company had a name but no marketing materials. Magnus specializes in small- business accounting with temporary/flexible services.
What did they need for their new company? We identified the following and provided a creative estimate and production timeline for:
1) logo design to be used on all materials
2) business cards, letterhead, mailing envelope
3) website
4) brochure
This logo project began with gathering information. We ask a series of questions about the company’s goals, target audience, competitors, as well as style and color preference. Should the logo be classic? Informal? Friendly? Magnus said, “You’re the experts” and let us have complete creative freedom.
I started the logo design process by typing the company name in a variety of typefaces and experimented with all caps and title case. Which typeface looked best? Which font combinations were harmonious? And, what should be the focus? Magnus would be the main emphasis and “Accounting Solutions” (a total of twenty characters) should be a smaller point size. We presented a page of logo concepts in black and white. Magnus selected one idea, and we proceeded to the next phase: adding color and applying the logo to a business card layout. I chose two colors, rust and dark green, because they reminded me of money. Then, I found a background image on Shutterstock.com that had four metallic squares, which greatly enhanced the color palette. I placed the squares behind the Magus “M”, thus creating an icon.
